Knitting to Heal
Wrap a tree, heal a victim of abuse
A fundraiser for Domestic Violence Victim Services

In 2012, Yarns Unlimited partnered with Middle Way House, a local agency providing support and shelter for victims of domestic violence, to raise funds to educate  the children of the victims and to raise awareness about domestic violence.   Local businesses and organizations donated monies to sponsor 23 trees around Bloomington's downtown square.  Yarns and supplies were generously donated by local yarn crafters and volunteers started creating sweaters for the trees in the Spring which were knitted, crocheted or handwoven.  The sweaters were installed in October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the community were invited to vote with their dollars for their favorite tree sweater.

The event raised much-needed funds for the cause, added vibrancy to our downtown area and proved to be very popular among the locals and visitors.  They are dedicated to all the victims who suffered abuse.  To see a video of the installed tree sweaters, click here.
